MDM Mechanical Design
& Manufacturing

From first sketch to measured part.

MDM designs mechanical components and assemblies, proves them by analysis, and carries them through manufacture and inspection. The design intent stays intact from CAD to the finished part.

Tolerance what matters

Datums follow how the flange locates in service. Only the bore, face and bolt pattern carry tight callouts, which keeps the part affordable.

Engineering services, joined up

Bring us a sketch, a worn-out part or a released drawing. Each service stands on its own, and they share one set of data when you need the full route.

Six stages, each with a clear gate

You see the work and approve it at each gate. If a requirement changes, the change is revised in the data and carried through to every downstream document.

  1. Brief

We capture function, loads, environment, quantity, budget and target date.

    Gate: agreed requirements
  2. Concept

Layouts and options are compared on function, cost and manufacturability.

    Gate: chosen concept
  3. Detail design

Full CAD, analysis, DFM review and tolerance stack-up.

    Gate: design review
  4. Release

Drawings, bill of materials and revision control are issued.

    Gate: Rev A signed off
  5. Prototype

A first article tests fit and function, and the results update the design.

    Gate: first article accepted
  6. Production

Parts are made, inspected against the drawing, documented and delivered.

    Gate: inspection report

What tolerance do you really need?

Tighter is not automatically better. Each step down the scale can add an operation, a slower cut or more inspection. Move the slider to see which processes can hold your number.

±0.05 mm

Bars run from the tightest practical tolerance to normal shop practice, on a logarithmic scale in ± mm. This is a general guide for features up to about 100 mm. Size, material and setup all shift these ranges, so we confirm tolerances for each job.

Materials we commonly specify

Material choice affects strength, weight, corrosion life and machining cost. These are common starting points, and we can work to your specification.

Tell us what you need to make

A rough sketch and a clear problem are enough to start. More detail gives you a more accurate quote.

  • What the part does and what it connects to
  • Quantity, now and over the product's life
  • Material, finish and operating environment
  • CAD files or drawings, if you have them
  • The date you need parts in hand
